Discover Maxime Gauld, the craftsman behind Calepiniste!
Welcome to the world of Calepiniste, where dreams take shape thanks to the ingenuity of the naive Maxime Gauld.
Originally from Gatineau, Maxime is a true jack-of-all-trades with a passion. His unplanned career is as varied as it is inspiring: bar owner, festival organizer, organization director, and even novelist. But what he prefers above all is to stroll with a notebook in hand.
Several years ago, he started in leather goods to create the ideal notebook, the one that was missing on the market. Whether fermenting food in his kitchen or tinkering in his workshop, Maxime always has a notebook on hand to write down his ideas, good and bad. Dive with us into this artisanal adventure and discover the unique notebooks of Calepiniste, designed with passion and know-how.
A rich and varied journey
Maxime Gauld is not an entrepreneur like the others. Yes, okay, he is of average height and has a slight attention deficit...
At 23, he embarked on a second venture into entrepreneurship with the idea of creating a small cinema in a commercial space that needed to be renovated. Surprise! The oven didn't fit through the door. Once the lease was signed, the project was transformed into a pizzeria, which, as you might expect, only survived for three months.
The experience left him with a bitter taste and roasted garlic, but also a valuable lesson. Twenty years later, he took four years to develop Calepiniste, determined to make everything perfect.
A passion for creative projects
Throughout his career, Maxime has shown an incredible ability to transform his ideas into concrete projects. He has started and managed bars such as Où… Quoi! and Le petit Chicago, as well as Hasta la pizza, the aforementioned pizzeria. He has also been a pillar in the development of many festivals, such as the Festival de l'Outaouais émergent and the International de pétanque du Vieux-Hull.
But Maxime doesn't stop there. He has also been involved in politics, being an independent candidate in national elections and a candidate for municipal nomination. In addition to that, he has been the manager of various organizations such as the Conférence régionale des élus, the Chambre de commerce de Gatineau, the École des entrepreneurs du Québec and other NPOs. He even found the time to write and self-publish a novel, L'Auberge mirifique, and to work as a regional development consultant.
It is also (possibly) imperative to add that under the pseudonym of Dj Papa Gold , he excels at making the dance floors move without ever succeeding in a transition.
An artisanal and sustainable approach
Maxime's philosophy is reflected in every notebook he creates. In addition to his many projects, Maxime likes to ferment everything he can, but not too often: beer, cabbage, sausage or cheese. He tries to repair everything he can and loves to renovate his house, often visiting the hardware store. For him, autonomy and self-sufficiency are essential. He seeks to stop buying specialized paper for life, preferring to reuse rather than recycle.
Calepiniste notebooks are designed to last. Maxime often doubts the reliability and durability of digital technologies. Handwriting, doodling, sketching, drawing: this is what motivates Maxime every day.
